RESU Battery Series
The RESU (Residential Energy Store Unit) battery series owes its success to a range of factors, including but not limited to the unique cell design, performance, compatibility, safety and service backed by a huge multi-national company. Their 48V (LV) series is available in 6.5kWh, 9.8kWh, 13kWh sizes. Larger systems (a maximum capacity of 19.6kWh) can be achieved by using two battery units, using the LG RESU plus battery combiner unit called the ‘RESU Plus’.
LG Cell Technology
As opposed to many other battery manufacturers, LG RESU uses a unique Polymer ‘pouch’ flat laminated battery design (PH3), claimed to enable higher energy density with increased reliability and safety. Layering the battery cell sections reduces the possibility of failure, enabling even heat dissipation across the cell area.
Efficiency
LG RESU features industry-leading depth of discharge rates and DC round-trip efficiency. Depth of discharge refers to the percentage of battery energy that has been discharged relative to the overall capacity of the battery. Unlike other battery options on the market that utilise approximately 80% of their storage capacity, the latest generation LG RESU batteries boast a depth of discharge rate of up to 95% across all battery sizes.
The DC round-trip efficiency is a measure of electrical losses involved in charging and discharging the battery; the higher the efficiency percentage, the more efficient the battery is in converting incoming electricity into usable power. The LG RESU series has a phenomenal 94.5% round-trip rate. This means that for every 10 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity charged into the battery, you’ll receive 9.45kWh of output.
Installation
Its design allows easy wall-mounted or floor-standing installation for both indoor and outdoor applications. The inverter connections have also been simplified, reducing installation time and costs. LG RESU has been working closely with inverter manufacturers to ensure that their product is compatible and easily configurable with almost every popular hybrid and off-grid battery inverters on the market. When installed with a compatible EPS (Emergency Power Supply) device, your battery will power critical devices such as your lights, fridge, security system, healthcare devices etc in the event of a blackout.
Safety
All LG RESU batteries are IP55 weather rated, allowing them to be installed in semi-outdoor locations such as verandas and carports. However, in order to comply with both compliance and warranty criteria, they should not be located in a position exposed to direct sunlight . As with any battery system, excessive prolonged heat is detrimental to the performance and life of the system. The RESU series are tested to the UL1973 test standard, which requires no explosion or sign of fire when the cells are forced into a ‘thermal runaway’ condition.
Warranty
The LG RESU warranty lasts 10 years. This is based on 2 main factors – the remaining capacity and the energy throughput based on charge/discharge cycles. All batteries reduce capacity over time due to internal cell degradation; this is not a flaw in the product’s quality. The LG RESU’s warranty ensures the retained storage capacity is “at least 60% of the Nominal energy (original amount) for either 10 years after the date of the initial installation or for a minimum Energy Throughput”.
