The Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) is a scheme developed for households, small businesses and community groups to assist with the cost of installing solar under 100KW. The STC’s rebate amount is calculated on your system size not the inverter size and is based on the expected output of the solar system over a set period of time. 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) of renewable energy is the equivalent of 1 STC.
The expected power generation period is over a 15 year period, or (from 2017) the installation year until 2030 when the scheme ends. STCs, can be bought, traded and sold. Their value does fluctuate with supply and demand so they can be described as a type of renewable energy currency. The current STC price can be as low as $16 or as high as $42 but it currently sits around $36.
State Government Rebates & Incentives are available in NSW, QLD and VIC. providing you meet the eligibility criteria in each state.
